Hippius Bridge Is Live: What Alphanomics Phase One Means
Earlier this week, the first stage of the Hippius alphanomics rollout went live on-chain. If you saw the announcement on X and want the fuller picture, this is that: what changed, why we built it this way, and what happens next.
The Hippius Bridge Is Live
The bridge is the connection that lets alpha move from Bittensor onto the Hippius chain, where it becomes subject to the on-chain rules we published in our original alphanomics plan.
We laid out our alphanomics roadmap early on, and now we're delivering on it. The Hippius side of the bridge is now implemented and running on mainnet, exactly as that roadmap described.
What this means in plain terms: unused miner emission is now routing through a single on-chain entry point that carries it onto the Hippius chain. This is phase one of a staged rollout. Only unused emission is moving right now, miners continue to be paid exactly as before, and every step is happening in the open, on-chain, where anyone can check it.
Why Hippius Has Its Own Blockchain
This is the piece that makes everything else possible, so it's worth explaining clearly.
Most projects in the Bittensor ecosystem rely on a dashboard: a website that tells you what's happening and asks you to trust that it's accurate. Hippius took a different approach. We're the only subnet with our own native blockchain, which means data provenance, payments, and storage activity aren't just reported to you, they're recorded on-chain where they're independently verifiable.
That distinction matters most in moments like this one. When something changes in how emission flows, you shouldn't have to take our word for it. You can look at the chain itself.
Understanding the Bridge
The bridge is the connection between the Bittensor network and the Hippius chain. It's what allows alpha to move from Bittensor onto Hippius, where it becomes hAlpha, the chain-native version of the token, and is subject to the on-chain rules we published in our original alphanomics plan.

Once alpha crosses the bridge, it doesn't sit in a wallet that anyone can spend from at their discretion. It lands in an on-chain pallet, a purpose-built module that governs exactly what happens to it next:
- Hippocampus is the pallet that settles payments. It's where miner payouts, referral commissions, and affiliate commissions are calculated and distributed, all on-chain and auditable.
Every movement in this pallet is gated by whitelisted logic and emitted as an event, meaning it's visible and checkable in real time, not something you have to take on faith.
Staking on Hippius ties directly into this system. Because bridged alpha sits in hippocampus before it's paid out, and because the dividends it generates during that window flow through to stakers rather than being retained, staking is structurally connected to how much the network is actually being used, not to any fixed or promised rate.
The Alphanomics Phases
Alphanomics is a complex system, connecting a live bridge, on-chain payment logic, and a permanent security pallet, so we're rolling it out deliberately, in stages, rather than switching everything on at once. Each stage is built and run on mainnet before the next one starts. Here's where things stand.
Phase 1: Now
Right now, the priority is ensuring the bridge is verifiable on mainnet before anything downstream of it changes. Here's the practical breakdown:
What's changing: Unused emission, alpha that would otherwise sit idle, now routes through the bridge onto the Hippius chain, becoming hAlpha in the process. This is the foundation that later stages build on.

Unused emission leaves Bittensor as alpha, crosses the bridge, and lands on the Hippius chain as hAlpha.
What isn't changing: Miner payments. Miners are being paid exactly as they were before this update, calculated the same way it always has been: bytes stored multiplied by time, settled daily, priced in USD, and converted on-chain. Nothing about existing miner rewards has been reduced, redirected, or delayed by this change. As the rollout progresses, miner settlement will move to hippocampus on the Hippius chain (see "The Next Phases" below), and we'll share more detail on that transition as it approaches.
This is deliberate. We built the bridge in careful stages precisely so that nothing about the miner experience shifts until each piece has been tested and shown to work on mainnet.
The Next Phases
The bridge going live on mainnet is the foundation the rest of the rollout builds on. From here, the plan continues in stages:
- On-chain payments to every miner through hippocampus, settled in hAlpha, enabled by this pull request.
- Referral and affiliate commissions settling the same way, on-chain and fully auditable.
We don't have exact dates for each of these yet, since each one depends on the last being tested and working on mainnet. We'll continue publishing updates as they land.
Addressing the Single-Address Question
If you looked at the chain yesterday, you may have noticed unused emission routing to a single UID. We want to be direct about what that is.
That UID is the on-chain entry point to the bridge, the address alpha passes through on its way onto the Hippius chain. It is not a wallet the team spends from, and no one, including us, can move funds out of it except through the whitelisted on-chain logic described above. Everything that happens to it is logged as a public, inspectable event.
We understand why a single address raises questions. It's a reasonable thing to check, and that's exactly the point: because every event tied to that address is logged and public, you don't need to take our word for any of it.
