Browser Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

This policy covers the Hippius browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari ("the extension"). The extension is made by T34 Corporation FZCO, the company behind Hippius ("Hippius", "we", "us").

Your Hippius account and your Hippius Drive are covered by our main Privacy Policy. This page explains what the extension itself does with your information.

In Short

The extension records your screen, takes screenshots and saves them to your own Hippius Drive. It does this only when you ask it to.

Your captures are encrypted in your browser before they are uploaded. We store them encrypted and cannot see what is in them.

The extension talks only to Hippius: api.hippius.com and arion.hippius.com (with its EU address, eu-central-1-arion.hippius.com), and the Hippius console when you connect your account.

No analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party services. We do not sell or share your data.

The extension sends no error or usage reports. Its short activity log stays on your computer unless you choose to send it to us.

Your Screenshots and Recordings

The extension captures only what you choose, when you choose it: the visible page, an area you select, a tab, a screen or window you pick in your browser's sharing dialog, or your camera. It never captures anything in the background.

On your computer. A capture is kept in the extension's own storage in your browser until it is saved to your Drive. A recording is written there a second at a time while you record, so it is not lost if the browser closes. If your Hippius account is connected, the capture is encrypted with your Captures drive's key before it is stored. If no account is connected yet, there is no key to encrypt it with, so it is kept unencrypted on your computer and the extension tells you so. It is encrypted as soon as you connect, before anything is uploaded. Once the capture is saved to your Drive, the local copy is deleted.

In your Hippius Drive. The capture is uploaded, encrypted, to the Captures drive in your Hippius Drive (arion.hippius.com). As with any file in your Drive, our servers receive the encrypted content, the file name (for example "Recording 2026-10-19 at 14.03.11.mp4"), its size and type, the time, and your account's address, which they need to store the file and show it to you. They cannot read the content.

Share links. When you finish a capture, the extension makes a share link for it, copies the link to your clipboard, and then saves the capture to your Drive. The link points to a separate encrypted copy of the capture. The key to that copy is in the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server, so only people who have the link can open it. Anyone with the link can view the capture, and the link does not expire until you turn it off on the Shared Links page in the Hippius console, or delete the capture from the extension's popup (which turns off the links this browser made). To show your shared files in the console, our servers also receive each shared file's name, size and type.

Downloads. If you press Download, the capture is saved to your computer through your browser's normal downloads.

Your Camera and Microphone

The extension uses your camera and microphone only while you use its capture tools: to show the camera bubble, the microphone level and your device names, and to record when you ask it to. The picture and sound are passed between the extension's own pages inside your browser. They do not leave your computer except as part of a capture you save.

In Chrome and Edge, the extension asks your browser for permission once, on its own page, and never on behalf of the website you are on. In Firefox and Safari, the camera bubble opens the camera inside the page, so the browser may ask for permission for that website instead.

Connecting Your Hippius Account

When you press Connect in the extension and then Connect in the Hippius console, the console gives the extension:

A session token for your account.

The key to your Captures drive.

The key that signs your uploads.

Your account's address and the name the console shows for it (your email, username or access key name), so the popup can show who is connected.

Your password and your master secret stay in the console, and the extension cannot open your other drives. The connection is kept in your browser's session storage, which is held in memory only and is cleared when the browser closes or when you press Disconnect. The session token is sent only to Hippius's servers, to prove the requests are yours.

Your Plan and Your Captures List

To apply the free plan's rules (a small Hippius mark, a 5 minute limit and 25 recordings), the extension asks api.hippius.com which plan your account has, and counts the recordings in your Captures drives. It remembers the last plan it saw for your account in your browser.

The toolbar popup lists the files in your Captures drive. To show a picture of a capture made elsewhere, it downloads and decrypts that file in your browser and keeps a small picture of it. Pictures, recording lengths and the share links this browser made are stored in your browser, encrypted with your Captures drive's key.

Settings Kept in Your Browser

The extension remembers your choices in your browser's extension storage: capture options (countdown, timer and link options), which sources were on, where you last placed the camera bubble, the controls and the capture area, whether you allowed the camera and microphone, which captures already opened their link, and the tips you dismissed. None of this is sent anywhere.

It also keeps a short log of what it did recently (the last 500 entries, such as a recording starting or an upload failing), to help fix problems. The log holds no account names, emails or addresses, no tokens or keys, no share links and no private parts of web addresses. It never leaves your computer on its own: it reaches us only if you press Copy diagnostics and paste the report into a message to us.

What the Extension Does Not Do

It does not collect analytics, usage statistics or crash reports, and includes no third-party code that does.

It does not show ads, and it does not sell, rent or share your data with anyone.

It does not read your browsing history, and it does not read or change the pages you visit, except to draw its capture tools on a page after you open them there. In Firefox and Safari, a small script runs on the Hippius console's pages to carry your account connection, encrypted, from the console to the extension.

It does not load or run code from the internet. All of its code ships inside the extension.

Keeping and Deleting Your Data

Captures and share links stay in your Hippius Drive until you delete them or turn the links off, in the extension or in the Hippius console.

Your connection is gone when you close the browser or press Disconnect.

Everything the extension stored in your browser (waiting captures, pictures and settings) is removed when you remove the extension. Pictures and waiting captures that were encrypted stay unreadable unless you connect the same account again.

Children

The extension is not meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age for using online services where you live. Using it needs a Hippius account, which is covered by our Terms and Conditions.

Changes to This Policy

If the extension starts handling your information differently, we will update this page before that version is released, and change the date at the top.
